Industrial Organization Khronos Group announced its intention to create an open and free to use the standard cross-platform applications, acceleration in the computer or machine vision.
Machine vision is an important component of many modern applications, including gesture recognition, "intelligent" video surveillance, automatic aid when driving, biometric systems, computational photography, augmented reality, visual quality control, etc. Many devices, ranging from smart phones to desktop PCs and could serve as machine vision systems, but it is necessary to ensure the work of algorithms in real time, which requires the use of hardware acceleration tools. Bring together all industry players and private development to replace the individual companies industry-wide standard - that is the task of the working group that was formed Khronos in response to requests and suggestions.

Standard API will use the resources CPU, GPU and DSP. Developers hope to lay the API interoperability with other standards Khronos - camera control, video processing acceleration calculations and graphical approaches.
Given the use of already proven in practice development process, Khronos expects to release the first version of the specification within the next year. All interested companies invited to join the Khronos, to participate in the development of specifications and have access to their draft version before public release. Meetings of the Working Group will begin in January 2012.
